Zakat is a religious obligation for Muslims who are financially able to do so (Nisab) and is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The purpose of Zakat is to purify one's wealth and to assist the poor and needy. Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth that a Muslim must possess before they are obligated to pay Zakat. The nisab is calculated based on the current market value of gold and silver. The nisab threshold is typically around 85 grams of gold or 606 grams of silver. Once the nisab threshold is met, Muslims are required to pay 2.5% of their total wealth as Zakat annually (full lunar year). Use the HFA calculator to assist you in calculating your Zakat.
